Sometimes with a condensing unit, it is only the motor which is damaged and the fan blades can be saved. While most people do not own a ac fan blade puller, there are some tried and true tips on doing it yourself. Here is one of them:
1. If any part of the shaft is sticking out of the hub, then take a piece of sandpaper and sand away whatever rust is on there.
2. Use a penetrating spray on the shaft and around the lug nut. This will loosen the grime and allow for much easier removal. After this, take a wrench and loosen the lug nut. If the lug nut is being stubborn, try tapping it lightly with a hammer. If this does not work, heat may be needed on the screw. Use a small acetylene torch for this.
3. Using an electric hacksaw, cut the shaft into two pieces. While this is theoretically possible with a hand hacksaw, it is exceedingly difficult and things are much easier if you simply use an electrics sawsall to perform the task.
4. Once the shaft is cut into two pieces, you can proceed to lift the blade away from the motor. Do this very carefully. Remember, if the motor is burned out there is no saving it but if the blades can be saved then it is crucial that they are not bent when pulling them away. This is why great caution needs to be used when performing this job.
This is all you need to do to remove the condenser fan blade. However, as easy as this job sounds, it is still much easier if a ac fan blade puller is used. It is designed for easy removal of the blade and is very easy to use.… Read MoreRead more
